About us
The insider guide to racing in Vietnam
An independent guide for international runners, written by people who have spent years producing races in Vietnam.
Vietnam Sports Events exists because entering a race in Vietnam is easy and racing well here is not. Regulations come in Vietnamese first, details change close to race day, and the things that catch visitors out are rarely written down: kit pickup that closes the day before, a start line across the river from the finish, a 3 am car booking that never arrives.
We write those things down, check them against the organiser’s own documents, and keep them up to date until the gun goes.
Who is behind it
We are a small team based in Ho Chi Minh City with more than a decade of experience producing large sporting events in Vietnam, from city marathons to mountain trail races. We know how a race week is put together from the inside, which is exactly why we do not work for the races we write about.
Guides are researched in Vietnamese and English, and checked with runners who have done the race.
Our principles
Independent
No organiser, sponsor or hotel pays for, approves or edits a guide. Commercial relationships are labelled “Partner”, every time.
Sourced
Every guide lists the documents it is built from. If something is not confirmed, it goes in “Still to confirm”, not in the main text.
Dated
Each page shows when it was last updated. Corrections are made openly and dated.
Useful first
We write for the runner arriving on Friday night, not for search engines or sponsors.
What we publish
- Race calendar: every race we track, October to June.
- Race guides: full guides to the biggest races.
- Racing in Vietnam 101: the basics that apply to every race.
- Journal: this weekend’s races, comparisons, spotlights and runners’ stories.
